Math Club - WSMC Math Olympiad Registration -UPDATE

3/14/2021 6:48 pm

The Washington State Math Council is hosting a virtual Math Olympiad on April 23-24, 2021. Math Club will organize teams of four to participate in this contest. The contest is available for grades 3-5.

The format for this contest is different from years' past. Please review the WSMC's explanation below of this year's contest format.

Math Club will assign teams in order to make sure that everyone can be part of a team! All teammates must be in the same grade. We will form teams based on the following criteria:

  1. Team requests. We will attempt to honor all requests. You can request teammates in the registration form or by emailing mathclub@medinapta.org by March 26.
  2. How casually or seriously you are taking this contest. We will send out a survey after registration to determine your approach to the contest, and attempt to group students with similar responses. Everyone is welcome!

WSMC has extended their registration deadline, so we are now able to accept registrations until Friday, March 26, 2021. We expect to announce teams on Monday, March 29. After this date, registrations will only be accepted if space on an existing team is available.

HOW TO REGISTER:

  • Go to Your Account and make sure you are logged in
  • Register using the form "WSMC Virtual Math Olympiad Registration for ..." at the bottom of the "New Forms" section. This form will only be present for students in grades 3, 4, and 5.
  • If you do not see the registration form, please make sure your student's information is correct (including student grade) in the "Family Information" section at the top of Your Account page.

If you have any questions, please email mathclub@medinapta.org.

From the Washington State Math Council:

This year’s Math Olympiad will look very different from the Math Olympiads in the past.

The 2021 Math Olympiad will be an on-line format.  The Washington State Math Council has partnered with Mangahigh (Games | Mangahigh.com) a platform that incorporates mathematical understanding into interesting challenging games for all ages and expertise.

Scoring will be done by teams but each student will have their own login and earn points toward the team score.  This will enable students to participate at their convenience, during the open event window.  There is no requirement for minimum or maximum amounts of time spent working on the math.  Students may confer with their teammates, but each student will have an adaptive path so they will rarely see the same screen at the same time.

Login information will be provided when teams are registered and the fee paid.

Students will have a 30 day access to the Mangahigh site at the conclusion of the event, but scores will not count towards their team score after the closing ceremony.
